A Social Media Primer for Lawyers by Jeff Krause

Today, I have the pleasure to be speaking to EPICOR (Estate Planning Institute of Collaborative Resources) a group of Wisconsin and Illinois estate planning attorneys.  I could have done the presentation remotely but who could pass up a trip to beautiful Door County, Wisconsin?

My presentation today is on social media and how attorneys can use blogging, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to help them market their firm.  I like my presentations to be as real as possible.  I have always felt that it is one thing to say that blogging is really easy.  It has much more impact when you can demonstrate it.  So, I have created this short post to publish during my presentation.

If you are interested you can find the materials for this presentation on the Presentation Downloads page of my website.

See You at LegalTech New York by Jeff Krause

I am very much looking forward to my first trip to LegalTech New York next week.  While I have been to the ABA Techshow many times and LegalTech West Coast several times, I have never made it out to New York for the biggest legal technology show of the year.

If you are going to be at LegalTech, look me up.  It is always great to put a face with a name.  For the most part, I will be hanging around the exhibit hall.  In particular, I will be helping out at the Grundig Business Systems booth.

Law Technology News Vendor Awards Announced by Jeff Krause

Law Technology News (LTN) has just announced its vendor awards for 2010 and a number of products supported by Krause Practice Management and Lawtopia made this exclusive list.  Unlike past years, where awards were handed out for various categories like “Case Management” or “Document Management” and based primarily on a popularity vote, this year’s list was all about customer satisfaction.  First, to be considered, product had to reach a 60% “likely to recommend” score.  Second, they were rated on nine specific aspects, including such things as customer service, features, and value for price.

The new rating system resulted in a short list of four products rated at the Gold level, five rated at Silver level, and seven rated at Bronze level.  Lexis won the most awards with four out the sixteen awarded.

Among the products supported by Krause Practice Management, TABS / PracticeMaster and Worldox won Gold and Time Matters won Bronze.  Congratulations to all of our friends at Software Technologies, World Software and LexisNexis.  In addition, several products supported by our Lawtopia partners were recognized with awards.

A complete list of the award winners and the criteria by which they were selected can be found at LTN 2010 Vendor Awards.

Swimmer Indian Law Blog by Jeff Krause

John Swimmer, a KPM client, recently began blogging on Indian Law issues at the Swimmer Indian Law Blog.  The blog is about Federal Indian Law issues, Wisconsin Tribal Court Decisions, Supreme Court Cases and Federal Court cases related to Indian tribes and anything else John finds interesting.  John says he started the blog to provide a resource on Indian law as there are very few resources in this area, especially for Wisconsin lawyers.

John is a former president of the Wisconsin State bar Indian Law Section.  Visit his firm website at Swimmer Law Offices.

Wisconsin Solo and Small Firm Wrap-Up by Jeff Krause

It was another great year at the Wisconsin Solo and Small Firm Conference in the Wisconsin Dells.  Exhibiting, helping out with the Technology Track and catching up with clients and friends made for a busy three days but I managed to sit in on a few presentations as well as give a few.  Keith Hawk was great as always in speaking about Get Real Selling Principals for Lawyers and I learned a lot in Ken Matejka’s presentation on Getting Clients into Your Firm from Google.  I sat in on Marty Ditkof and Sarit Singhal in their talk about taking Marty’s office virtual as well as Ross Kodner and Nerino Petro on Office 2010.

I presented twice.  I had the pleasure to present How to Create Your Own Website on a Small Budget with my Lawtopia partner, Robert Gray.  I solo presented Workflow in the Digital Age:  Hands on Digital Dictation and Scanning.  Both presentations are available for download on the presentations page of the Krause Practice Management website.

See you next year.
